PARADE OF CHAMPIONS! City of Chattanooga to Celebrate Men’s Basketball’s NIT Title Run on Thursday, April 17

The Chattanooga Mocs men’s basketball team will parade through the city streets before gathering at Miller Park for a city-wide celebration on Thursday, April 17.

CHATTANOOGA (April 11, 2025) --- For the city. Fresh off capturing the 2025 National Invitation Tournament (NIT) title, the Chattanooga Mocs men's basketball team and the city of Chattanooga have collaborated to host an official championship parade and rally to be held at downtown's Miller Park on Thursday, April 17, at 6 p.m. Complete details on the event are listed below.
 
Fans are highly encouraged to join the festivities and celebration of the Mocs historic and nationally recognized postseason run through this year's NIT. Student-athletes, staff, spirit squads and local leaders, among others, will be on hand to give remarks and recognition to the team that stole Chattanoogan's hearts over the past several weeks.

"This team captivated our city and region," Vice Chancellor for Athletics Mark Wharton said. "The work of these student-athletes and coaches is absolutely deserving of this incredible event. We are grateful to Mayors Tim Kelly and Weston Wamp and all our civic leaders for honoring this special group."
 
Parade Details
When: Thursday, April 17 - 6:00 p.m. (start movement)
Parking: FREE public parking behind Bessie Smith Center (200 E MLK)
Route Start: Mabel Street (staging area); right on E MLK Blvd., left on Georgia Ave. (Miller Park)
End: Miller Park (rally, remarks + celebration)

: Approx. 6:15 p.m. (band/spirit squads kick off event)
Features: Live performances from UTC band & spirit teams, remarks from UTC Interim Chancellor Dr. Dooley, joint proclamation from Mayor Tim Kelly & Hamilton County Mayor Weston Wamp and remarks/reflections from head coach Dan Earl and select student-athletes.
End: Approx. 6:45 p.m. (following closing performance from UTC band)

Chattanooga became the largest "underdog" (unseeded) to win the NIT since the event returned to its 32-team format in 2007. The championship run was not only a feel-good story for the program and the city, but it also reaped dramatic benefits for the University with estimated totals north of $10M in national television, digital, social and local exposure (READ MORE HERE).
