Lesley Boyd Named SoCon Track Athlete of the Week

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- Chattanooga distance runner Lesley Boyd claimed her third Chattanooga Mocs program record last weekend and was named the Southern Conference Track Athlete of the Week the league office announced Tuesday.

Boyd broke a nine-year old program record in the women's 5000 meter run set in 2014 by Teghan Henderson. She covered the distance in a time of 16:09.46 Friday at the Lee Fast Break Invitational and finished second behind Georgia Tech's Kate Jortberg. She shaved more than 37 seconds off her previous top time.

Boyd now holds three Chattanooga records. She broke the record in the indoor 3000 meter in 2024 at the Music City Challenge and set a new mark in the 10,000 meter run earlier this season at the Raleigh Relays.

The Dayton, Tenn., native also earned All-NCAA Region honors and qualified for the NCAA National Cross Country Championships.

Chattanooga heads south to Atlanta for the Georgia Tech Invitational this Friday and Saturday.
