CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- The Chattanooga men's and women's cross country teams get the season off to a running start Friday at the Golden Eagle Invitational hosted by Tennessee Tech in Cookeville.

The men will bring returning runners Ian Etheridge, Derek Mitchell, Andrew Moore, Tristan Gould, Cade Crum and Cash Coggin. Newcomer Jayden Bowman joins the Mocs on the course.

The women will have a large compliment of runners on the course. Returners Lola Baker, Lauren Bayes, Taylor Crawford, Bella King, Maya McCloskey, Scarlett Nash, Aubrey Park, Kennedy Reynolds, Anna Roberson, Olivia Steele, Emma Thweatt, Brooke Tyll, Ellie von Herrmann and Audrey Wade are joined by newcomers Leila Hailey and Ashley Torr.

SOUTHERN CONFERENCE EXPECTATIONS
The Southern Conference coaches preseason poll was released Thursday. The Mocs men and women were both selected fourth. Furman's men received all possible first place votes – 10 – for 100 points. ETSU received the remaining vote and finished second in the voting with 79 points. UNC Greensboro is third (74) followed by Chattanooga with 68 points. The remaining teams are: Samford (57), Tennessee Tech (53), Mercer (51), Western Carolina (49), VMI (34), The Citadel (21) and Wofford (19).

Furman topped the women's poll with eight of the 11 first place votes and 98 points. Mercer picked up two votes and 81 points for second while Samford, with 73 points, received the remaining first place vote. Chattanooga was fourth with 70 points followed by Western Carolina (62), Tennessee Tech (59) and ETSU (56). The remaining teams are UNC Greensboro (39), VMI (32), Wofford (21) and The Citadel (14).

The Southern Conference Championships return to Tryon, N.C., at the Tryon International Equestrian Center on October 31.
