ATLANTA, Ga. --- The Chattanooga women's outdoor track and field team recorded multiple personal records Friday on Day One of the Georgia Tech Invitational in Atlanta.
Â
Maddie Wheatcroft led the way in the women's 1500 meter run. She finished second in the second heat with a personal best time of 4:26.51. Lesley Boyd edged out her previous time, finishing 17th overall at 4:29.11.
Â
Leah Boyd was fourth in her heat and posted a personal record at 4:37.48 and Andrea Ellis topped her personal best time at 4:57.29.
Â
"The meet at Georgia Tech proved to be beneficial for those prepping for the conference meet in a few weeks in Birmingham," Mocs assistant coach Patrick Gildea said. "Maddie ran a PB in the 1500m, taking ownership over the pacing duties early on. Lesley stepped down in distance finishing closely behind. Leah ran a PB in her heat and Andrea, also stepping down in distance, broke 5:00 for the first time. Audrey and Anna both earned more experience as they gear down for the conference meet as well."
Â
EV McGowan had a great showing in the 3000 meter Steeplechase, once again topping her previous best time in the event at 12:07.52.
Â
"That was a lifetime best for EV," Gildea said. "And Aubrey [Park] had a strong showing in the 5000 meter."
Â
Park finished with a time of 19:03.51. Ryleigh Simmons posted a time of 12.09 in the 100 meter dash while Stella Henry placed 14th in the long jump at 5.50 meters [18' 0.5"].
Â
"Ryleigh blitzed another 100m and will be chomping at the bit to give it another go tomorrow," Gildea said. "On Stella's second attempt she jumped hit her longest mark to finish off her day. She has some big jumps in the coming weeks and she knows it.
Â
Day Two will feature the triple jump, 400 meter hurdles, 200 meter dash, 800 meter run and a pair of relays.
