Softball Canceled Wednesday at Kennesaw State

Due to the forecast for inclement weather in the Atlanta, Ga., are Wednesday evening, the Mocs softball game against Kennesaw State is canceled. It will not be made up.

UP NEXT: 
The Mocs host Samford in a crucial three-game Southern Conference series this weekend at Frost Stadium. The Bulldogs, tied with UNC Greensboro for the SoCon lead, hold a half game lead on Chattanooga. Prior to Saturday's double header, the Mocs will honor seniors Kailey Snell, Acelynn Sellers, Jayce Purdy, Olivia Lipari, Alyssa Lavdis, Abby Orr, Camryn Cernuto and Presley Williamson.

LAST TIME THEY MET
Earlier this season, the Mocs hosted the Owls and came away with a 1-0 victory in eight innings. The two teams combined for three hits in the game with UTC getting one in the fourth and another in the second. International tie-break rules placed a runner at second for both teams in the extra inning. For the Mocs, Abby Orr was placed on second to pinch run for Presley Williamson. Jayce Purdy bunted her over and a wild pitch that got away up the third base line to score the game winner.
 
CHATTANOOGA vs. KENNESAW STATE
The Mocs hold a 3-2 edge against Kennesaw State. The two teams have traded victories back and forth since 2019, playing two games each season. This will be the second game at Kennesaw State where UTC won 15-4 in 2019.
 
ABOUT CHATTANOOGA (33-12, 10-4 SoCon)
The Mocs are hitting .297 as a team 104 multi-base hits including 62 doubles, 13 triples and 29 home runs. Olivia Lipari, the reigning TSWA Player of the Week, leads the team with a .361 batting average. She has a team-best 14 doubles along with two triples and six home runs. She has driven in 34 runs and scored 33. Camryn Cernuto is hitting .358. She is 16-for-16 on steals and has scored a team-high 37 runs. Acelynn Sellers and Presley Williamson each have a team-best eight home runs with Williamson leading the team with 36 RBI.
 
In the circle, the Mocs have a 2.67 ERA with 349 strikeouts and 12 shutouts. Peja Goold, named SoCon and TSWA Pitcher of the Week, has a SoCon-best 1.45 ERA. She has a league-best 190 strikeouts with a 19-5 overall record, 17 complete games and eight shutouts. Taylor Long has a 2.68 ERA with 134 strikeouts and an 11-2 overall record.
 
ABOUT KENNESAW STATE (10-37, 1-20 CUSA)
The Owls are on an eight-game losing skid. They have a .236 batting average as a team with 92 multi-base hits and 138 RBI. Ava Guzowski leads the team with a .286 batting average along with four home runs, nine doubles and 19 RBI. Ana Gore also has a team-best four home runs and leads the Owls with 26 RBI. Hannah Harvey is hitting .285 with nine doubles, two home runs, a triple, 18 RBI and 20 runs scored.
 
In the circle, Kenley Hilleary has a team-best 3.46 ERA with a 3-6 mark. Emma Friedel is 6-14 overall with a team-best 102 strikeouts and has a 3.97 ERA.
 
OLIVIA LIPARI, PEJA GOOLD SWEEP TSWA WEEKLY HONORS
Olivia Lipari batted .533 as the Oviedo, Fla., senior collected two doubles, a triple, a home run, four RBI and four runs scored. Lipari homered against Lipscomb in a 2-1 win, then went 3-for-3 in the opener against Wofford. She ended the series against the Terriers with five hits. Goold picked up her fifth honor from the TSWA. She went 3-0 in the circle last week as the junior from Stockton, Calif., posted a 0.33 earned run average. She struck out 24 – eight in each game – and had a no-hitter going until there were two outs in the fourth inning in the finale, holding Wofford to just one hit.
 
GOOLD NAMED SOCON PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Last week, the Stockton, Calif., junior ranked second in the NCAA with three wins going undefeated. Her 24 strikeouts was sixth best last week and she led he way with two shutouts. Goold posted a 0.33 ERA and had a one-hitter in the finale at Wofford last weekend.
