GREENSBORO, N.C. — The Chattanooga women's soccer team battled to a 2–2 draw on the road against UNC Greensboro Friday evening at the UNCG Soccer Stadium. The match featured early momentum, second-half drama, and a clutch equalizer as the Mocs moved to 7-3-2 overall and 1-1-1 in SoCon play.
Chattanooga wasted no time getting on the board. In the fifth minute,
Caroline Richvalsky netted her sixth goal of the season off a well-placed assist from
Clarissa Salinas, giving the Mocs a 1–0 lead that held through halftime.
UNC Greensboro responded after the break. Rina Ogimoto scored twice in the second half for the Spartans. Her first came in the 53rd minute off a feed from Taylor Mentzer, and the brace in the 74th minute following a saved penalty kick by
Caroline Ekern that deflected away for the pickup.
It didn't take long for the Mocs to respond. Just 41 seconds later, Chattanooga answered back.
Nicole Solete headed home the equalizer in the 75th minute off a pass from
Paige Thomas, leveling the match at 2–2.
In the 53
rd minute,
Zoey Mize had a putback after a save by the Spartan keeper bounced out, but she was ruled offside and the goal disallowed. Mize had a game-high five shots with three on goal.
Quinn Johnson, on a free kick from outside the 18-yard box, hit the inside of the crossbar and the ball hit just outside the goal line.
Caroline Ekern tallied three saves including stopping a penalty kick.
The match was delayed 55 minutes due to lightning in the Greensboro area.
