Postgame Quotes
Dan Earl, Head Coach
Opening thoughts after 76-67 victory over Wofford.
"Road wins are certainly very hard to come by and Wofford, you know, Kevin Giltner does a great job with them. I know their staff well and he coached under Mike Young for years and years, who had tremendous success here. And they're playing with tremendous confidence right now. I mean, the numbers, particularly offensively, but in the conference play, the last four games have been like off the chart. So, there are so many things that I see out there that we must clean up and get better at, but with that said, I think we did an admirable job of making it difficult for their shooters and scorers. They have a lot of guys that can make threes, which makes it a tough cover, but I thought we did a great job in that regard."
Â
On the 23-9 scoring advantage to end the game.
"I think we were flying around on defense a little bit more, and then, look, a little bit of it was that the shots started falling. We made the last six threes or something like that, you know? And we had some open looks before that, and they just didn't fall. When you make shots that helps everything. So, I'd love to say we did really good things, but we put the ball in the basket, and I think we were trying to fly around and be scrappy. We still gave up nine offensive rebounds which we must cut that down. But with being undersized, I thought we were scrapping, fighting and got enough 50-50 balls late in the game to come out with a win."
Â
Billy Smith, Gr.-G
On seeing shots fall and the process.
"Yeah, it absolutely felt good. I mean, I've definitely been off to a little rough patch shooting wise, but it feels good to have these type of guys around you. They just feed you confidence, you know, and the coaches drive it home about telling us to keep shooting. They preach to stick at it, stay in the gym, and stay with your teammates. The connection goes a long way."
Â
On the importance of this road win.
"It's extremely nice to come into a game like this, and with it being on the line towards the end, come through as a team to win. It's big time for everyone and is great momentum for us. Hopefully, we can build on it heading in the Western Carolina game on Saturday."
