Postgame Quotes
Dan Earl, Head Coach
Opening thoughts after 73-61 loss at ETSU.
"So, you know, tonight, this is hard to say, but I thought we competed. We played hard, which is the number one thing we've asked our guys to do. Unfortunately, they can't just play hard and expect to win. You also have to play well if you want to win games. We did not play well tonight. Part of that is missing shots, which is unfortunate, but that's going to come and go. The other part of it is just being a little more dialed in or disciplined to specifics within the game plan and scout."
Â
On defending without fouling.
"We have to figure out how to, and I know it's a broken record, but defend without fouling. You have to compete for it. You can't be soft, but you must deal with the physicality. Again, some of them are fouls around the basket that you have to be a bit smarter on. We just can't foul in situations like when they grab an offensive rebound, and then you foul, and bring them one step closer to the bonus. Those are the silly fouls that we really have to control."
Â
On moving forward.
"Maybe some of it was poor decisions, but there were some open shots that we just did not make. And again, if you're going to beat a good team, you have to make some shots and play well. I don't want to give anyone the wrong idea, but this is just not okay, and we're working. I want it for our guys, mostly, and I want it for our fans, I want it for everybody involved. If you watched the game, I think we saw that we can compete at a high level. We just have to do that at all times, but the reality is, we just didn't play well on top of it to win tonight."
