Men’s Tennis Sweeps Coastal Alabama CC, Merzbacher Earns Win No. 100 at Chattanooga

The Chattanooga Mocs men’s tennis team found itself back in the win column after cruising to a 7-0 sweep over the Coyotes.

CHATTANOOGA (March 17, 2026) – The Chattanooga Mocs men's tennis team posted its first clean sweep of the season after cruising to a 7-0 shutout over NJCAA-member Coastal Alabama Community College – South on Tuesday evening inside the Strang-Voges Tennis Center on the campus of McCallie School in Chattanooga.
 
Head coach Chuck Merzbacher, who is in his ninth season at Chattanooga, earned win No. 100 as the program's leader following today's dominating effort. Merzbacher ranks third all-time in program history with 100 wins and is one of three Mocs head coaches to reach the triple-digit mark.

In doubles, UTC's Cortland Grove and Jakub Jupa defeated CACC's David Gimenez and Alvaro Velasco (6-1) to kick things off before Jaxon Lamb and Carter Ramthun followed suit with a 6-2 win at No. 3 over Julien Cordeau and Maximo Yanez to give the Mocs the team point and 1-0 lead. The Mocs completed the doubles sweep as Julian Franzmann and Kristof Kincses earned a 6-3 victory at No. 2 over Nils Guyot and Milan Olganon.
 
In singles play, Franzmann got things started at No. 2 with a quick 6-0, 6-2 win over Gimenez before TJ Ryerson followed with a 6-3, 6-1 victory at No. 5 against Guyot to put UTC ahead 3-0. Grove clinched the match result after securing the coveted fourth point at No. 4 with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Velasco.
 
Jupa continued his hot streak at No. 1 singles and upped his win streak to eight with a 6-2, 6-2 straight-set win over Cordeau. Lamb secured a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 6 over Yanez before Martin Delnido completed the sweep for Chattanooga with a 6-1, 6-3 result at No. 3 against Olganon.
