GREENVILLE, S.C. (April 3, 2026) — The Chattanooga Mocs women's tennis team nearly pulled off a ranked upset over Southern Conference-leading No. 72 Furman during an eventual narrow 4-3 defeat on Friday afternoon at the Mickel Tennis Complex in Greenville, S.C.

• Chattanooga falls to 14-4 overall and 3-2 inside league play after the defeat… No. 72 Furman improves to 14-4 and remains perfect in SoCon action at 5-0… sixth-straight win for the Paladins.
• Chattanooga has suffered 14-straight defeats to the powerful Paladins program over the past decade-plus… last road win at Furman came back in 1997… last overall win was in March of 2015.

At No. 1 doubles, Furman's Lillie Murphy and Elle Warren defeated Addison Iacono and Rufaro Magarira, 6-2 before the No. 2 match saw Bianca Ceroni and Macy Hitchcock defeat Emma Pedretti and Savannah Presson, 6-2, to clinch the team point. Furman's No. 3 pairing completed the doubles sweep with a 6-4 victory.
 
In singles, Furman made it 2-0 after Hitchcock earned a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 3 over Presson. Chattanooga responded swiftly at No. 5 to pull within one (2-1) as Jordan Fenton claimed a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Molly Robinson. Murphy added another point for Furman with a 7-6 (2), 7-5 win against Iacono at No. 1 to make it 3-1.
 
Chattanooga narrowed the gap back to one, 3-2, with a straight set win by Pedretti at No. 4 as she defeated Ceroni 2-6, 6-4, 6-1. Furman clinched the match when Lily Doherty defeated Ella Mancuso at No. 6 with a 7-6 (5), 6-2 decision. In a hard-fought match, Magarira claimed Chattanooga's third point at No. 2 singles with a 2-6, 7-6( 4), 6-4 three-set win over Warren.
