LEXINGTON, Ky. - The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced its Team Academic Award winners on Thursday, as Chattanooga's Volleyball and Beach Volleyball programs were among the teams honored. This award is given to teams who held a GPA of at least 3.3 or higher during the 2025-26 school year. Additionally, Chattanooga Volleyball was listed on the AVCA Team Academic Honor Roll for being among the top 20% of GPAs in Division I.Â
The AVCA Team Academic Award, sponsored by INTENT, is an annual award that honors the nation's top-performing collegiate and high school volleyball programs when it comes to academics. Programs honored by the AVCA include NCAA Division I, Division II, Division III, NAIA and TYC women's indoor volleyball, NCAA Division I men's indoor volleyball, NCAA beach volleyball as well as boys and girls high school volleyball.
Chattanooga Volleyball has picked up this award 15 years in a row, including all four of Julie Torbee Thomas' seasons as Head Coach. During the 2025-26 academic year, Volleyball had a Team GPA of 3.7286. For Beach Volleyball, they also excelled in the classroom, with a GPA of 3.6012. The Sandy Mocs have earned the Team Academic Award in all seven seasons of the program's existence.Â
Across both teams, Chattanooga has already compiled several individual academic awards throughout the school year:
- Eight College Sports Communicators Academic All-District players
- 29 AD Honor Roll players
- 27 Dean's List players
- 25 4.0 GPA semesters
- Five Academic All-Conference players
- 30 Conference Honor Roll players
