Kristen Michaelis

Kristen joined the Chattanooga volleyball program as a volunteer assistant in June 2016. She most recently served as the head coach at St. Clair Community College in her native state of Michigan, and became available when her family moved to the Chattanooga area.

She joins the Mocs volleyball program carrying an impressive playing resume as a libero for Fresno State and Team USA during her career. Her defensive expertise will give UTC an impact this upcoming season.

During her time at Fresno State (2001-2004), she was a four-year letter winner and finished among the program’s top players. As a junior in 2003, she averaged five kills per game and tied the national record for kills in a match with 41 against Cal State Northridge. In her Fresno State career, she accumulated 1,353 kills, which ranks third most in Fresno State history. Her 3.96 kills per game average stands second best All-time. Kristen was a 2003 honorable mention All-American, two-time All-WAC (2002, 2003) and AVCA All-West Region (2002, 2003).

After her time at Fresno State, Michaelis played for Team USA as a libero, helping the team to a bronze medal finish at the 2007 Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Following her Team USA stint, she became the head coach at her high school alma mater in Marysville, Michigan, before taking the same role at St. Clair Community College.
