It's not hard to overstate things in this day and age. This is the best thing ever! Easy to exclaim, and often is over and over, forgetting all the great things, times, etc., that previously happened in our lives. Not knocking enthusiasm, but let's have some perspective!
One thing that cannot be overstated in the course of a Southern Conference Championship run came in the quarterfinals. Yep a signature play that will stand the test of time.
Yes, there were huge plays along the way.
No. 9 in our top plays came from
Chuck Ester in the semis win over Western Carolina.
Justin Tuoyo,
Greg Pryor and
Tre' McLean, among others, had huge momentum moments in the championship game triumph against ETSU. But there was a play that keyed/sparked the tournament crown.
According to those in the know, it came in the opening win over Samford. How often does that happen? Probably more than we think, but this sequence by
Johnathan Burroughs-Cook is the stuff of legends.
Following a turnover by
Tre' McLean, the Bulldogs' Marcus Johnson had a clear path to the basket. Burroughs-Cook tracked him down, cleanly blocked his layup attempt, grabbed the rebound and made the outlet pass to
Dee Oldham who found McLean for a huge 3.
That accounted for points four, five and six of a 10-0 run that turned a seven-point disadvantage into a lead. They never trailed again in the game, and not by more than three in the final 91-plus minutes of tourney play.
Gotta agree with the experts. This play is more No. 1A than No. 2 on the season. It was that important, that eye-popping…
It got the Mocs dancing in 2015-16.
