Mocs 31 - Furman 14

Early in the first quarter, cornerback Gehrig Giles stepped inside a Furman receiver and tightroped the sidelines 70 yards for a touchdown with the ensuing interception to set the Mocs' fury loose. Robert Smith scored another first-quarter touchdown for a 14-0 lead.

Bucky Wolford set up a third score by racing 80 yards to the Furman five, and the Mocs added still another for a 28-0 halftime lead. The first half saw the Mocs pile up 15 first downs and 315 yards total offense. The Mocs defense used additional interceptions by Jim Hennessey and David Crow to thwart Paladin scoring bids.

Jim Cooper's field goal gave the Mocs a 31-0 lead after three quarters, but Paladin quarterback Clyde Hewell went to the air lanes for two fourth quarter touchdowns to Mr. Do-It-All Jimmy Jordan; Jordan finished the night with 6 receptions for 103 yards, punted 7 times for a 42.0 average (including a 64-yarder), and returned 4 kickoffs for 36 yards.
