CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. -- The Lady Mocs soccer squad fell 5-0 to Appalachian State Friday evening in Southern Conference action at the North River Soccer Complex. The Mountaineers collect their first league victory and move to 7-3-3 overall and 1-3-1 in the SoCon. Chattanooga falls to 0-8-2 overall and 0-3-1 in conference play.
The Mountaineers got on the board in a hurry Friday, scoring the first goal 49 seconds into the game. Caroline Lowe streaked past her defender and beat out Chattanooga's keeper Milla Junni for the first score. The second goal wasn't far behind on a shot lofted over Junni at the 13-19 mark. Chattanooga's defense would kick in for the remainder of the half and App. State would carry a 2-0 lead into intermission.
In the second half, the Mountaineers scored three more times on goals from Carella DiMaggio (unassisted), Lindsay Moore from Lindsay Jaffe and an unassisted score by Casey Cleary. Caroline Clark logged all 90 minutes in goal for ASU and made four saves. Appalachian State outshot the Lady Mocs 21-9.
Junni made eight saves for the Mocs' defense with four in each period. Sophomore Cassie Bowman took six shots for Chattanooga with two on goal, Chelsea Hurst had one on goal in two tries and Marlee Jenkins had one shot on goal.
Chattanooga will be back in action at Western Carolina in an afternoon matchup in Cullowhee, N.C. The game is set to kick off at 2 p.m. Appalachian State will host Elon at 3 p.m. in Boone.
