Lady Mocs top The Citadel with 2-1 overtime victory

| By:

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. ? Sophomore forward Cassie Bowman (Carson City, Nev.) took a pass from freshman midfielder Kris Rubi (Weston, Fla.) in front of the net and drove home the game-winner at the 103:15 mark to lead Chattanooga (2-10-2, 2-5-1) to a 2-1, overtime victory over The Citadel (3-14-0, 0-7) in a Southern Conference women's soccer game on Friday evening. For Bowman, it was her third goal of the season and the first assist of Rubi's career.

Freshman midfielder Sara Francescon (Nashville, Tenn.) got the Lady Mocs on the board early as she made use of a solid cross from sophomore forward Marlee Jenkins (Lenior City, Tenn.), chipping the ball over the head of the Bulldogs sophomore goalkeeper Emily Green at the 6:08 mark for a 1-0 advantage.

The Citadel quickly knotted the score at 1-1 when freshman midfielder Jessa Scott connected from the left side of the box with 11:17 gone by in the opening half. From there it would be a defensive battle as both teams had their scoring opportunities thwarted until the start of the second overtime when Bowman connected for the difference maker.

Francescon's goal was her team-leading fourth of the season while Jenkins' assist was her second of the 2007 campaign.

For the Bulldogs, Green faced a total of six shots on goal and made four saves while freshman goalkeeper Milla Junni (Hyvinkaa, Finland) made four saves on the night for Chattanooga.

The win improves the Lady Mocs all-time record against The Citadel to 6-0-1.

Chattanooga wraps up its home season on Sunday with a 2:00 p.m. game against Davidson at the North River Soccer Complex.
