Lady Mocs Defeat Akron 3-2 in Day Two of Panera Bread Challenge

Chattanooga, Tenn. ? Senior Alyssa Edwards (Geneva, N.Y.) hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the third to seal the Chattanooga Lady Mocs' third win in the Panera Bread Challenge Saturday afternoon over Akron 3-2.

Edwards also went two-for-three, her second multi-hit game in a row, and all three of the team's RBIs.

Chattanooga (5-5) continues its winning streak of four in a row and now is tied with Miami (Ohio) for the Panera Bread Challenge title.

Freshman pitcher Brooke Loudermilk (Locust Grove, Ga.) improved her record to 3-2, her third win in a row closing the game on a strikeout, her fourth of the game.

The Lady Mocs capitalized on two Zips errors in the first inning to get leadoff hitter Jeannie Cochran (Maryville, Tenn.) on base before scoring on Edward's first hit of the game.

The Zips answered back in the top of the second with Cali Stratton reaching first on an error and scoring fly ball out to centerfield.

Akron's Stratton scored the team's second run of the game in the top of the seventh advancing to home on an error with another in scoring position.

The Zips were led by Katrina Moffett and Deanna McCauley with two hits each and Moffett with a RBI.

The Lady Mocs' second game of day two in the Panera Bread Challenge is against the Maine Black Bears starting at 4:45 p.m. at Frost Stadium.
