Chattanooga, Tenn. ? Senior second baseman Brittney Whittier (Scottsdale, Ariz.) hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh inning to lead the Lady Mocs' late rally forcing the game into extra innings in the team's thrilling 4-3 win over Austin Peay Friday evening.

Chattanooga (8-9) captured its eighth win of the season and first win of the 2007 Frost Classic.

Whittier hit her first home run of the season, team sixth on the season, and drove freshman pinch runner Nicole D'Apice (Knoxville, Tenn.) home for the second run of the inning with no outs.

Junior right fielder Tara Tembey (Folsom, Calif.) reached on a single before advancing to second on a sacrifice hit, a passed ball and another sacrifice RBI by freshman catcher Lynleigh Hurndon (McDonough, Ga.) to score the tying run.

Going into the eighth inning, Austin Peay's Megan Williams was placed on second and advanced on Sarah Longmire's sacrifice bunt before Taylor Newberry and Michelle Edmonds had back-to-back outs to end the inning for the Lady Govs.

Sophomore designated player Laci Upchurch (Madison, Tenn.) was placed on second in the bottom of the eighth for the Lady Mocs and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Senior outfielder Jeannie Cochran (Maryville, Tenn.) was walked next before sophomore centerfielder Ashley Cuticchia (Rising Fawn, Ga.) was intentionally walked leaving the next at bat to freshman shortstop Tia Blosser (Knoxville, Tenn.) with no outs.

Blosser singled to left field to drive in the game-winning run, her first hit on the day and her fourth RBI on the season.

This all happened after the Lady Mocs were held to nine straight outs in the first three innings before Cochran recorded the team's first hit in the bottom of the fourth before stealing her ninth base of the season.

Austin Peay's Ashley Taylor hit her third home run of the year driving in Nikki Garrett, who reached on a hit, taking an early 2-0 lead over the Lady Mocs.

The Lady Govs scored again at the top of the sixth on a Sarah Longmire single to drive in Taylor making the score 3-0.

Chattanooga came out swinging in the bottom of the sixth with freshman pinch hitter Brittany Eason (Chattanooga, Tenn.) leading off with a single up the middle before advancing on a passed ball. Cochran stepped up to the plate with one out and hit a single to the right side, advancing Eason to third. But back-to-back outs left both runners on base with the score still sitting at 3-0.

Freshman pitcher Brooke Loudermilk (Locust Grove, Ga.) recorded a career-high tying 14 strikeouts in her sixth win of the season improving her record to 6-3, and also her second extra innings victory on the season.

The Lady Mocs face the Tennessee-Martin Skyhawks at 2:30 p.m. and Mississippi State at 4:45 p.m. tomorrow in day two of the 2007 Frost Classic.
