Edwards Leads Lady Mocs To 7-0 Win Over Long Island

Clearwater, Fla. ? Senior first baseman Alyssa Edwards (Geneva, N.Y.) went three-for-four with four RBIs in the Chattanooga's 7-0 win over Long Island University Thursday afternoon.

Edwards continues to lead the team with 17 RBI on the season. She also has 21 hits on 64 at bats.

Chattanooga recorded 10 hits, getting two from junior right fielder Tara Tembey (Folsom, Calif.).

Freshman pitcher Brooke Loudermilk (Locust Grove, Ga.) recorded her second shutout of the season, tallying seven strikeouts on 27 batters faced and improving her record to 8-4.

The Lady Mocs (12-12) started their run in the bottom of the third with sophomore center fielder Ashley Cuticchia (Rising Fawn, Ga.) and freshman shortstop Tia Blosser (Knoxville, Tenn.) reaching on back-to-back walks before Edwards sent the two home on her triple to right field to take the 2-0 lead.

Senior second baseman Brittney Whittier (Scottsdale, Ariz.) led off the bottom of the fourth with a triple down the right line but was stranded after three straight outs.

Chattanooga came alive again in the fifth led by Edwards' two-run single up the right side sending senior left fielder Jeannie Cochran (Maryville, Tenn.) and Cuticchia home to make the score 4-0.

Tembey also got a base hit, scoring on sophomore third baseman Toni Hutchison's (Madison, Tenn.) single. Whittier also was sent home on the single making the score 7-0.

Long Island was led by Vanessa Mejia, who had three singles on three at bats.

The Lady Mocs face Mercer at 6:00 p.m. Thursday evening to close out day one of the USF adidas Invitational.
