BOONE, N.C.---In a night of scoring runs, Chattanooga (12-6/7-1) dropped a 92-83 decision to a hot-shooting band of Mountaineers in the Holmes Center.  It was the first conference loss on the season for the Mocs, and the loss snapped their four-game winning streak.

The Mocs used an 8-0 run in the first half to take a 28-26 lead with 7:59 left.  ASU answered later in the half with a 10-0 run (1:24) of its own capped by a Donald Sims jumper from inside the key that was banked in to take a 46-34 lead with 1:22 left in the half.  Chattanooga scored the final four points to close to 46-38 at halftime.  Sims scored 15 points in the first frame.

The second half was Appalachian at the start going on an 18-9 run to open the half.  Chattanooga quickly answered with one of its own, 15-3 over 3:51, to close to within three at 67-64.

A 10-2 run for the Mountaineers over 1:32 pushed the lead back up to 11, 81-70.  Kevin Goffney hit two of three free throws to cut the lead to five with 2:56 to play at 81-76.  But the Mocs would get no closer as Appalachian answered down the stretch.

Junior forward Nicchaeus Doaks led the Mocs with 22 points and 10 rebounds, his second 20-point night and third double-double of the season.  Stephen McDowell and Khalil Hartwell each added 14 points for Chattanooga.

Appalachian's Donald Sims led all scorers with a career-high 28 points while grabbing seven rebounds and dishing out eight assists.  Donte Minter scored 18 points, while Kellen Brand tossed in 13 including a key three answering Goffney's free throws.

ASU shot 49.3 percent from the floor (34-69), 41.2 percent from three-point range making 14 of 34 behind the arc and 100 percent from the free throw line (10-10).  Conversely, the Mocs hit a paltry 42.1 percent (8-19) from the charity stripe.

The Mocs travel to Davidson on Sat., for a 2 p.m., matchup with the Wildcats.
