The tennis teams each opened up the 2008 schedule with victories over Lipscomb Saturday.  The women were 6-1 winners over the Lady Bison, while the men blanked the in-state foes from Nashville, 7-0.

The Lady Mocs swept all three doubles matches and won five of six singles duals.

First-year Head Coach Jeff Clark used three veterans at the top three spots in the lineup, while true freshmen made up the bottom three positions.

Seniors Lindsey Ballard and Bonnie Adams earned straight-set victories at the first and third positions respectively, while junior Beata Knizat, playing at No. 2, fell to Kara Jackson, 6-3, 6-2.

The three newcomers each won their debuts.  Grace Robinette defeated Olivia Ellis, 6-2, 6-3 playing at no. 4, Annie Green got past Caitlin Khouri at No. 5, 6-1, 7-6 and Arianna Sanjines was a 6-0, 6-1 winner over Marianna Rangel.

It was a clean sweep for the men's squad with the exception of the third doubles match.  The Mocs took two of three doubles matches to start off the dual, claiming the doubles point.

Head Coach Carlos Garcia only had to use two newcomers in his singles lineup.  His veterans led the way with seniors Badr Bouabdellah and Razvan Axente picking up 6-4, 6-1 wins at the first and second positions, and juniors Peter Sauska and Pavel Vostrikov earning straight setters at No. 3 and 4 respectively.

True freshmen Hasan Hamadeh and Rick van de Bovenkamp were inserted at the fifth and sixth spots.  Hamadeh pulled out a 4-6, 6-2, 10-2 win over Josh Cummings, and van de Bovenkamp won 7-6, 7-6 over Mario Hernandez.

The Mocs travel to Middle Tennessee next Saturday for a 5 p.m. match, while the Lady Mocs face Western Kentucky Feb. 2 in Bowling Green, Ky.
