Men?s Golf to Defend Championship at UCF/Rio Pinar Invitational

ORLANDO, Fla.---The Chattanooga men's golf team opens defense of its 2007 UCF/Rio Pinar Invitational championship on Monday, Feb. 25.  It does so at the Rio Pinar Country Club with plenty of national recognition.

“We got off to a great start last Spring here,” said Head Coach Mark Guhne.  “It's a good field and a great course so it should be a strong test of our team.”

Chattanooga is currently the 13th-ranked team by Golfweek and No. 16 in the Golf World coach's poll.  On the individual side, junior Jonathan Hodge is ranked No. 34 in the country by Golfweek.  He heads a five-man unit rounded out by sophomores Derek Rende (No. 55), Fredrik Qvicker (No. 91), Ben Rickett and J.T. Clendenin.

“We had a great Fall, something to be proud of,” added Guhne.  “What it did was position us nationally.  It means we have a lot to build on and this is the beginning.”

The tournament is a 54-hole event with 36 holes on the first day and 18 on day two.  The Mocs won the 2007 event with a two-under par total of 862.  Chattanooga plays its first round with UCF and Kentucky.
