Box Score COOKEVILLE,
Tenn. --- The men's tennis
team took two of three doubles matches to earn the doubles point
against Tennessee Tech Thursday but could only manage one singles win
the rest of the way, dropping a 5-2 decision to the Eagles.
The
Mocs won the first and third doubles matches with the teams of Badr
Bouabdellah/Pavel Vostrikov and Hasan Hamadeh/Rick van de Bovenkamp
scoring 8-6 and 8-2 wins respectively.
Freshman
Robert Diamond was the only Chattanooga player, however, to pull out
a singles victory. Diamond, playing at No. 5 singles, defeated James
Crawford, 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 as the Mocs avoided a shutout in singles
play.
Chattanooga's
No. 1 singles player, junior Peter Sauska, sat out the match to rest
a nagging injury. Everyone moved up in the singles lineup, and van
de Bovenkamp, a freshman, slid into the sixth spot.
Tennessee
Tech, having one of its best seasons in several years, improved to
16-4 overall. A loss at Louisville Wednesday ended the Eagles'
eight-match win streak.
Chattanooga,
now 12-9 overall, will prepare for the upcoming Southern Conference
Championships which will be played April 17-20 in Charleston, S.C.
