Chattanooga vs. Georgia Southern Box Score

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. ? Junior outfielder Lauren Flores (Fort Oglethorpe, Ga.) walked and drove in a run and sophomore pitcher Brooke Loudermilk (Locust Grove, Ga.) threw six innings, allowing three runs as Chattanooga (34-18, 12-4) dropped the first game of their series against Georgia Southern, 3-1, Saturday afternoon at Eagle field in Statesboro, Ga.

A pitchers duel saw both teams remain scoreless until the bottom of the fifth inning when Georgia Southern managed runners on first and second with one out. Following a force out at third base for the second out, junior first baseman Robyn Siliga drove a 1-2 pitch out over the left field fence to give the Eagles a 3-0 advantage.

Following a 1-2-3 sixth inning, the Lady Mocs rallied in the bottom of the seventh, netting two walks around a pair of fly outs before senior shortstop Tara Tembey (Folsom, Calif.) singled down the right field line to load the bases. A bases loaded walk to freshman outfielder Lauren Flores (Fort Oglethorpe, Ga.) forced in a run to make it 3-1 but that would be as close as UTC would get as the Eagles closed out the game with a fly to right.

Sophomore pitcher Brooke Loudermilk (Locust Grove, Ga.) went six innings, allowing six hits and three runs, all earned, while striking out six as she took the loss to fall to 13-7. Senior Melissa Laliberte went the distance and allowed only three hits and the one run while notching five strikeouts.

At the plate, Flores went 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI while junior outfielder Laci Upchurch (Madison, Tenn.) finished 1-for-2 with a walk and run scored. Tembey added the only other hit, going 1-for 3 with the 92 walk of her career. That base on balls moves her into a second place tie on the Lady Mocs all-time career walks list with Melissa Ramirez (2002-05). She trails Leslie Barron 2003-05 for the all-time mark of 110 by 18 walks.

The Lady Mocs take the field for Game 2 against Georgia Southern at 3:00 p.m.
