Vostrikov Nets Lone Win as Tennis Teams Lose Saturday

LADY MOCS FALL 7-0 TO EASTERN KENTUCKY;

 

RICHMOND, Ky. --- The Chattanooga women's tennis team fell 7-0 to Eastern Kentucky today at the Greg Adams Tennis Facility. The Lady Mocs are 2-3 overall and the Colonels move to 4-2.

 

Annie Green and Brianna Wishing tallied the Lady Mocs' lone win with an 8-7 (7) win at the No. 3 spot in doubles, but the Colonels claimed the point with wins at both No. 1 and No. 2.

 

In singles action, Anouk Faure posted a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 4 over UTC's Beata Knizat followed by a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 1 by Svetlana Pimenova over the Lady Mocs' Shaina Singh. Eastern Kentucky clinched the victory with a win as Alexandra Sitnikova beat Emily Hangstefer 6-3, 6-3 at No. 2.

 

The Lady Mocs will return to action Sunday morning with a match against Indiana State at 9 a.m. in Richmond, Ky.

VOSTRIKOV NETS LONE WIN FOR MOCS IN 6-1 LOSS TO BELMONT

 

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- Senior Pavel Vostrikov won his second match of the season in the Mocs 6-1 loss to Belmont Saturday afternoon at the Hixson Racquet Center.

 

Vostrikov dropped the first set 6-7, but rebounded to win the second by a 6-2 margin and claimed the win in a tie-break over Joao Paoliello in the No. 2 singles match.

 

The Bruins swept the doubles point in order to go up 1-0 then posted wins Nos. 5, 4 and 3 to clinch the win. At No. 5, Renato Antun of Belmont defeated Dakota Pate 6-2, 6-2 for the win followed by a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 4 by Rodrigo Amaral over Alex Butnarcuic. Javier Rodriguez clinched the win with a 6-2, 6-3 decision at No. 3 over Rick van de Bovenkamp.

 

The Mocs (0-4) Sunday afternoon match at Murray State was cancelled and will not be made up due to the winter weather that hit the area earlier this week.
