RANCHO SANTE FE, Calif.---It went down to the wire for the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga's men's golf team Sunday afternoon at the Callaway Collegiate Match Play qualifier at the Farms Golf Club in Rancho Santa Fe, Calif. Its 36-hole medal play total of 604 fell just shy of making the championship bracket.
Chattanooga finished 11th in medal play just three shots shy of a tie for eighth. The top eight teams qualified for the championship bracket while the bottom eight will face off in the consolation bracket.
The Mocs sat in eighth place after 18 holes. An 11-over par 299 put Chattanooga two shots ahead of Texas Tech holding the final position for the championship bracket.
Derek Rende had the low first round with a one-over par 73. Rende followed with a second round of 76, 149 (+5), to finish medal play tied for 21st.
The top Chattanooga finisher was Ben Rickett who tied for 10th at 146. Rickett shot rounds of 74 (+2) and 72 (E), the low round of the day for the Mocs.
Stephan Jaeger completed his day tied for 43rd at 153 (+9) with rounds of 75 and 78. Jonathan Hodge and Fredrik Qvicker are tied for 68th at 159.
The Mocs will face Louisville in the consolation bracket beginning with two rounds of match play on Monday and finishing with one round on Tuesday.
