TEAM
- The Mocs almost overcame a 17-point second half deficit before falling 73-65 to Murray State in non-conference action today...Chattanooga drops to 4-6 overall while the Racers improve to 5-4.
- UTC is 2-6 all-time against Murray State, but this is the first win for the Racers in Chattanooga.
- Murray State shot 61.3% (19-31) from the field in the first half to build a 45-30 lead at the break...UTC stepped up its defense in the second half, holding MSU to just 6-19 from the field (31.6%)...Racers made 14 of their first 20 shots (70.0%), but just 36.7% (11-30) the rest of the way.
- Leading 16-13, Murray State used a 13-0 run in the first half to take control of the game...that spurt was capped by an And-1 from Donte Poole at the 7:09 mark.
- The Mocs got killed on the boards in the first half 17-11, but turned that around greatly in the final 20 minutes...UTC outrebounded Murray State 22-14 in the second, including nine offensive rebounds.
- Trailing by 17 (50-33) with 16:09 left in the game, UTC went on a 17-4 run to cut the lead to four (54-50) on a Josh Odem layup with 8:15 left in the game...UTC would get to 57-53 on an And-1 from DeAntre Jefferson just over a minute later, but that was as close as the comeback would get.
- The Mocs were just 12-22 (54.5%) from the FT line today...MSU shot 18-21 (85.7%) from the charity stripe.
INDIVIDUAL
Junior Keegan Bell
- Tied a season-high with five rebounds.
- Added five points and a team-high five assists.
- Played 39 minutes (ties career high)...third straight game with at least 38 minutes.
- 0-3 from 3-pt. range...opened the year 6-10 from deep at Tennessee...8-41 since.
Junior Chris Early
- 10 points on 4-11 shooting, 2-4 from 3-pt. range.
- Third straight game in double figures.
- Tied for team-high with six boards.
- Added two assists and two steals.
Senior DeAntre Jefferson
- 10 points on 3-4 shooting, 4-8 from the FT line.
- Tied for team high with six rebounds.
- Played 25 minutes off the bench.
Sophomore Josh Odem
- Six points on 3-6 shooting, 0-3 from 3-pt. range.
- Added three boards, three assists and three steals in 22 minutes off the bench.
Junior Omar Wattad
- 23 points on 7-13 shooting, 3-7 from 3-pt. range and 6-6 from the FT line.
- Played a season-high 36 minutes.
- Tied for team high and tied a career high with six rebounds
- Third game this season with 20+ points.
- MSU scored 23 points off 14 Chattanooga turnovers compared to 17 points for UTC on the Racers' 16.
