Box Score The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga men's tennis team dropped a 5-2 contest against Georgia State at the Manker Patten Tennis Center in Chattanooga today. The loss drops the Mocs to 0-4 on the season while the Panthers improve to 6-2.
Freshman Ryan Pool and sophomore Sam Parfitt scored their first doubles win of the season with an 8-4 victory over Calvin Kemp and Trenton Spinks in the No. 1 match. The deciding doubles match came down to the No. 3 contest between UTC freshmen Roberto Vieira and Jackson Tresnan against Victor Valente and Henri Mangin. Valente-Mangin pulled it out with a 9-7 win to take the doubles' point.
The Mocs scored a pair of wins in singles action with Vieira and Parfitt taking points at the No. 2 and No. 4 matches. Vieira defeated Valente (7-5, 6-3) to improve to 3-3 on the season and score his first singles win of the spring season.
Parfitt defeated Jackson Moore (5-7, 6-2, 6-1) for his second straight win. He is now 4-5 on the year.
The match with Georgia State was not originally on the schedule. It materialized on Friday after weather cancelled the men's and women's doubleheader that was planned for Saturday against Mercer.
Chattanooga will be back in action on Feb. 19 when the Mocs travel to Austin Peay. UTC is back at home on Feb. 27, hosting the College of Charleston at the Hixson Racquet Club at 1:00 p.m. (E.S.T.).
