GREENSBORO, N.C. - After sealing the Southern Conference Regular Season crown with a doubleheader sweep on Saturday, the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga softball team was only able to register four hits in a 3-0 defeat at UNC Greensboro. Sophomore Jessica Traxler (Chino Hills, Calif.) paced the Lady Mocs offense going 2-for-3 on the afternoon.

The fate for Chattanooga was sealed as the bases were loaded in the seventh and a ball hit down the left field line was caught. With the loss, the Lady Mocs fell to 37-14 overall and 17-4 in the SoCon, while UNCG improved to 24-26 and 11-9 in conference.

In the circle, senior Brooke Loudermilk (Locust Grove, Ga.) started pitching three innings and struck out three. The Spartans chased Loudermilk, who threw a one hitter yesterday after drawing two walks to begin the fourth.

Coming on in relief was junior Kandice Irwin (Knoxville, Tenn.), who caused ground balls for the next three hitters, but one went right up the middle to load the bases. With two outs, Whitney Sirois doubled down the right field line as senior Kaiti Kelley (Chattanooga, Tenn.) gave chase in shallow right and dove, but was just short as the bases cleared giving UNCG a 3-0 lead.

Pitching for the Spartans was Amber Harrell, who kept the Lady Mocs off balance all day striking out seven. Chattanooga did get opportunities as it left seven on base including a runner on third three times.

In the fourth inning, freshman Kasey Tydingco (Fairfield, Calif.) singled to right and advanced to second on a groundout to the pitcher. With a runner on second and two outs, junior Tiffany Baker (East Ridge, Tenn.) hit a ball to left that dropped in front of the outfielder and Tydingco was held at third. A strikeout ended the frame and the opportunity for the Lady Mocs.

After the Spartans took the 3-0 lead, another chance was given in the fifth as senior Kaiti Kelley (Chattanooga, Tenn.) advanced to first on a wild pitch following a strikeout and advancing on another groundout. With two outs, Traxler singled to left and Kelley was held as third as the inning ended on a fielder's choice.

With their backs against the wall, the Lady Mocs started the seventh with a walk by sophomore Jenni Martin (East Ridge, Tenn.) and then Flores took first on a fielder's choice as the second baseman was unable to make the play.

With runners on first and second, two quick outs by UNCG put pressure on Chattanooga. Traxler responded with a single to left and loaded the bases, but that would be it as a foul out to left ended the contest.

Chattanooga returns home for Fan Appreciation Day on May 8 with a doubleheader against College of Charleston scheduled for 1 p.m. The final home contest for the Lady Mocs is May 9 as five seniors, Brooke Loudermilk, Brittany Eason, Lynleigh Hurndon, Tia Blosser and Kaiti Kelley, will be honored prior to the game at Frost Stadium.

The Southern Conference Tournament will also be at Frost Stadium from May 13-14 as the top four teams play for the title. The first game for Chattanooga is set for 1:30 p.m. on May 13 with the winners of the first two contests playing at 7:30 p.m. and the lossers at 5 p.m. Tickets for the event are $10 for an All-Tournament Pass and $5 for a single single session. There are three sessions for the event, two on Thursday and one on Friday.
