Postgame Quotes
Chattanooga at Furman
Greenville, S.C. - Timmons Arena
Feb. 23, 2012
Head Coach John Shulman
On moving on from this game:
"We have a long trip back to Chattanooga tonight. We talked
about trying to finish the season right for our seniors. We have to find some
juice. If I said we had no confidence, it would be an understatement. We have
below no confidence. I was thinking that when we were down 8 [6:54 left], we
still had a chance to win the basketball game.
There was no doubt in my mind because they could not guard us. Ronrico
White was going to the line for a one-and-one. They are not handling our press
very well and we had them out of whack a little bit. Before you know it, it
went from a six-point game to where it was out of reach because we missed the
big one that you have to make. In the beginning of the basketball game, when you
want to get off to a good start, we went 1-of-6 from the foul line. When you
are on a fine line, everything has to go right. We stepped to the line and
threw bullets up there. The fact is that we have absolutely zero confidence. At
some time or another, we have to make some plays."
On Saturday's game vs. Samford:
"I would love to have a great crowd on Saturday night for
our seniors. In some ways I am made at them, but in others I feel bad for them.
The competitive guy in me is mad at them, but the right human in me, I feel bad
for them. They don't want to it to end this way. They don't want their legacy
to be remembered this way, but it is what it is. We have battle come Saturday
night.
"Sunday is going to be a big day because we are going behind
closed doors. We are going to change everything in about four days. We are
going to look like a different basketball team. This is something that has to
be done to recapture our enthusiasm for our basketball team. We are dead. We
are beat down. If you look at what we have been through, it is probably normal."
Senior Guard Ricky Taylor
On the game:
"We have to give a lot of credit to Furman. They dominated
us on the glass tonight. We just need to do a better job on rebounds and hustle
plays, then we are going to be just fine. When we don't get the rebounds, we
hang our heads down and get discouraged because we know deep down inside that
we were supposed to get it. Once we correct those mistakes, then we are going
to be fine."
On what a win Saturday could do to propel the team into the
SoCon Tournament:
"Our motto for the rest of the year is that we still have a
pulse. I have faith that we can do this. We need a win on Saturday to give us
some confidence and a boost into the tournament. I still believe that we can do
that. We are no pouting or anything like that. We know the potential that this
team has. We just have to go out there and make it happen."
