GAINESVILLE, Fla. ? The Chattanooga Lady Mocs softball team and
No. 4 Florida had its game cancelled following a long rain delay on Wednesday
night at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium. Chattanooga trailed the Gators 11-0 with one out in
the bottom of the fourth as a thunderstorm dumped over an inch of rain on the
field.
Stats for neither team will count as the contest was
determined a “no game” following a judgment call by the umpires to remove both
teams from the field with one out in the bottom of the fourth. There was
visible lightning and the crackling of thunder all around the stadium, when the
contest was called.
The rain in the Gainesville, Fla., area did not come immediately,
but after 30 minutes, heavy rain with hail started to fall as more than an inch
of rain fell at the stadium.
Chattanooga returns to action on Friday with a doubleheader
against Canisius and Hartford beginning at 4:30 p.m. Links to live stats and
free audio are available on the softball schedule page of GoMocs.com, with the
Voice of Lady Mocs Softball, Tyler Brown, providing the play-by-play
commentary.
