| By:

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Chattanooga Lady Mocs freshman Taylor Deason (Clarksvills, Tenn.)l was named the Southern Conference Pitcher of the Week by the league office on Monday for games played from March 13-18. Deason posted a 2-2 mark with four complete games including victories over Canisius and Northwestern. It is the second weekly honor for the Clarsksville, Tenn., native.

She posted a 2.36 ERA and struck out 19 in 26.2 innings of work and pitched well in losses against No. 21/22 Florida State and Illinois.

The Clarksville, Tenn., native opened the week with a matchup at No. 21/22 Florida State, where the only run in the contest from either side came on a home run. Deason scattered seven hits during the contest, but the Chattanooga defense aided her in getting out of jams.

The Lady Mocs upset bid fell short when senior catcher Vivian Morimoto (Sao Paulo, Brazil), long fly ball to right center with a runner on base came up two feet short of going over the fence.

Deason earned the start against Canisius to begin the USF Invite and tossed a complete-game shutout as the Lady Mocs won 8-0. She notched seven strikeouts in five innings of work.

Chattanooga opened up the second day of the event with Northwestern and Deason was on-top of her game as she pitched seven innings with two strikeouts, yielding just one earned run in beating the Big 10 foe.

The fourth start of the weekend came in the finale against Illinois as a pitcher's duel ensued for the first five innings before the Fighting Illini registered a pair of runs in the sixth and seventh innings. Deason gave up four earned runs on seven hits during the contest, while striking out five.

During her collegiate debut from Feb. 10-12, Deason was selected as the SoCon Pitcher of the Week.

The Lady Mocs are off to Boone, N.C., this weekend for a SoCon series against Appalachian State beginning with a doubleheader on Saturday at 1 p.m. before the three-game finale on Sunday at 1 p.m. Follow all the action with live stats and free audio available on the softball schedule page of GoMocs.com.
