STARKVILLE, Miss. - The Chattanooga Lady Mocs softball team had three
representatives on the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-South
Region teams. Junior second baseman Sara Poteat (Thomaston, Ga.) was the lone
selection to the first team, while senior designated player Michelle Fuzzard
(Huntington Beach, Calif.) and junior first baseman Kasey Tydingco (Fairfield,
Calif.) were honored on the second team.
After being selected to the second team in 2010, Poteat
paced the Southern Conference and finished 13th nationally in batting average at .437 on her way to earning
first team honors. The Thomaston, Ga., native tallied 62 hits during the campaign,
while drawing 13 walks to compile a .478 on-base pct. She scored 1.02 runs per game to end the regular season 18th in the country.
Poteat was stellar defensive for the Lady Mocs in compiling
a .958 fielding percentage with 88 putouts and 93 assists at second base. She
was the 2011 SoCon Tournament Most Outstanding Player and is a two-time
all-conference representative.
For the second-straight season, Fuzzard received all-south
region second team honors, while also earning recognition as the Southern
Conference Player of the Year. The Huntington Beach, Calif., native was in the
top 20 nationally in RBI (63), Slugging (.846) and On-Base (.543) percentage.
She additionally posted a 15-7 mark in the circle with a
3.34 ERA, striking out 85 in 144.2 innings of work. Fuzzard was selected as a
third team All-American by College Sports Madness on May 16 and has a total of
five All-SoCon honors.
Earning her first all-region honor was Tydingco by receiving
second team acknowledgment. The Fairfield, Calif., native posted a .360 batting
average with 17 doubles, three triples and 13 home runs, while tallying 62 RBI, setting
career-marks in each category. The first baseman registered a .738 slugging and
.429 on-base percentage along with a .983 fielding percentage recording 290
putouts and nine assists.
Tydingco became a first-team All-SoCon performer this season
after garnering second-team honors in 2011.
Chattanooga completed the 2012 regular season with a 39-16
overall mark and now looks forward to beginning fall preparations in August for
the 2013 campaign.
