HEAD COACH
MARK GUHNE (Chattanooga '84) is in his seventh year as a head coach, all at Chattanooga.  The Mocs have won 16 team titles under his watch, including four SoCon titles and one NCAA Regional, and he has been named SoCon Coach of the Year four times (2006, 2007, 2008 & 2012) and PING East Region Coach of the Year once (2009).  He has coached 12 medalists including three in 2011-12, Jaeger (Golfweek Conference Challenge, SoCon Championship & NCAA Bowling Green Regional).

LAST TIME OUT
For the second straight event, UTC and Stephan Jaeger (Munich, Germany) swept team and individual title this time at the NCAA Bowling Green Regional. The Mocs won by one over No. 15 Texas A&M and four over No. 3 UCLA shooting five-under par 859. Jaeger shot rounds of 70, 67 and 66 for a 13-under par 203 winning by four over UCLA's Pedro Figueiredo.

NOTES

• UTC is ranked No. 31 on Golfstat and No. 32 in the Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index.
• Jaeger is top 10 nationally at No. 9 on Golfstat and No. 10 in Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index. He is also No. 8 in the Golfstat Cup standings and No. 35 in the R&A World Amateur Ranking.
• Chattanooga and Jaeger are looking for the postseason trifecta. It started with runaway wins at the Southern Conference Championship with a 19-stroke team win and Jaeger's record-tying 11-shot medalist romp. Jaeger cruised to a four-stroke win at the NCAA Bowling Green Regional over a world-class field, while UTC overcame a four-shot deficit a historic triumph.
• With his win in Bowling Green, Jaeger beat the No. 1 (Patrick Cantlay by 17 shots), No. 7 (Corbin Mills by 19), No. 16 (Anton Arboleda by 18), No. 19 (Sebastian Cappelen by 13) and No. 20 (Pedro Figueiredo by 4) ranked golfers in the world.
• The Mocs win in Bowling Green came in a comeback effort. They trailed third-ranked UCLA by 10 shots after the opening 18. UTC played with the Bruins over the last two days beating the top seed by 14 over the 36 holes. In fact, Chattanooga was third behind UCLA and Texas A&M entering the final round out-dueling the two powers with the low round of the day (284).
• The NCAA Bowling Green Regional win came over one top 10 (No. 3 UCLA), two other top 15s (No. 11 Arkansas & No. 15 Texas A&M) and another top 25 (No. 21 Clemson).
• This is Chattanooga's second NCAA Championship appearance. The other was 2009 at Inverness. Evidently the Mocs only advance to U.S. Open venues.

• Riviera Country Club is a George Thomas-designed course opened in 1927. Since 1929, it has hosted the PGA Tour's Los Angeles Open (Northern Trust Open now). The club is affectionately known as "Hogan's Alley" for his three wins in 18 months there (1947 & '48 LA Opens and '48 US Open). It is the site of Jack Nicklaus' first professional paycheck, a whopping $33.33 in 1962 and Tiger Woods' first PGA Tour event at 16 in 1992. Riviera has hosted the 1948 U.S. Open, 1983 PGA Championship, 1995 PGA Championship and 1998 U.S. Senior Open. It will host the 2017 U.S. Amateur as well.
• Jaeger set a new school record with 29 rounds in the 60's, 13 this year. His two at the Linger Longer Invite pushed him past former teammate Derek Rende's (2007-10) 23.
• Jaeger's 21 par or better rounds gives him 68 breaking Jonathan Hodge's (2006-09) school mark of 64.
• To put Jaeger's season in perspective his 21 par or better rounds in 2011-12 would rank 9th in the Mocs' CAREER records, while his 13 rounds in the 60s would be tied for sixth.
• Jaeger's 21 par or better rounds this season it tied for school record with Hodge.
• The medalist honor in Bowling Green was his fourth, a new school record. He tied Hodge with three wins in a season.
• UTC has 11 par or better rounds as a team. The team's average of 291.55 is third-best in school history behind 2008 (286.84) and 2011 (289.85).
• The Mocs are -8 over last six rounds. An impressive number as those 108 holes were at the Ralston Creek Course on Daniel Island, S.C., site of the 2011 Nationwide Tour Championship, and the Club at Olde Stone which yielded just four par or better team rounds in 2009 regional play.

• UTC is -131 (4.74) on par 5s as a team this season on its counting cards with a low of -26 at the AutoTrader.com Collegiate Classic. That's just ahead of the 24-under par effort at the Carpet Capital Collegiate Classic.
• The Mocs are +189 (4.14) on the par 4s. The performance of the season was last week's minus one at the NCAA Bowling Green Regional. That bested the level par effort at the SoCon Championship the tourney before.
• Chattanooga is +83 (3.16) on the par 3s. There has been one hole-in-one this season with Bunn's in Bowling Green. Three-over par at the regional tied the season-best performance at the Seahawk Intercollegiate in February.
• The Mocs have had three tourneys with 40 or more birdies with a high of 50 in Bowling Green. They reached 40 at the Brickyard Collegiate and 43 at the AutoTrader.com Collegiate Classic.
• Jaeger's 19 birdies in Bowling Green is the season-high for Chattanooga. He has recorded 10 or more birdies in seven with events with a high of eight in a round. He did that in the opening round of the SoCon Championship and second round in Bowling Green. Fox has topped 10 birdies five times with a high of 13 twice (Bowling Green/Brickyard). Robb has turned the trick three times also with high of 13 (Linger Longer).

• UTC has eclipsed 140 pars twice with 141 each at the Golfweek Conference Challenge and SoCon Championship.
• Fox has 13 scores in the 60s for his career and 35 par or better cards. Fox posted 80 birdies over his last 24 rounds (3.3 per) after 17 in the first nine (1.9).
• Fox set the course record with a second round eight-under par total of 64 at the Club at Olde Stone. He broke the 65 posted by Chattanooga-area native Luke List who is the current leading money winner on the Nationwide Tour.
• Jaeger's 13-under par 203 in Bowling Green set another, wait for it, school mark for lowest 54-hole total.
• Jaeger has eight top 10s in 11 events with six top 5's (3 wins). He has 19 career top 10s, 15 top 5's. He's finished first four times, third thrice, fourth six times and fifth twice, but never second.
• Jaeger is -28 for the season after shooting -1 for 2010-11. Since the 2011 Cleveland Palmetto Intercollegiate, he has shot -42 (16 tournaments - 864 holes - 71.00).
• Mocs student-athletes have 11 top fives and a total of 15 top 10s thus far. This includes three wins and four runner-ups.
• 22 rounds in the 60's led by Jaeger with 13. Fox has five, while Chris Robb (Aberdeenshire, Scotland) and Benni Weilguni (Langenlois, Austria) each have two.
• Robb had an interesting pairing the final 36 holes in Bowling Green matched up both days with world No. 1 and Ben Hogan Award winner Patrick Cantlay. For the tourney, Cantlay beat him by two, but head-to-head Robb topped him by a stroke.
• Jaeger's career scoring average of 72.08 is the lowest in school history. Hodge is second almost a full stroke back at 73.07. Jaeger is +0.48 against par.
• Fox is fourth on the career stroke average list at 73.28 strokes per round.
• Jaeger's current stroke average of 70.97 is nearly a half-stroke better than Hodge's school record of 71.41. Jaeger's 2011 mark of 71.67 is third. Those are the only three under-par totals for the Mocs.
• Behind Jaeger in career par or better rounds, Fox is seventh (35). Robb and Weilguni are tied for ninth (17).
• The Mocs won their fifth Southern Conference Championship this year, fourth in six years. The five titles and years won: 1987 (Charlotte, N.C.), 2007 (Florence, S.C.), 2008 (Florence), 2009 (Florence) and 2012 (Daniel Island, S.C.).
• Jaeger's 11-stroke win at the SoCon Championship tied Brad Faxon's (Furman) tourney record in 1983.
• Guhne won his fourth SoCon Coach of the Year honor. His previous three were in 2006, 2007 and 2008.
• Jaeger is the third UTC men's golfer and fifth overall to play in regionals in each of his four seasons. He joins former teammates Derek Rende (2007-10) and Fredrik Qvicker (2007-10) along with women's standouts Emma de Groot (2008-11) and Maria Juliana Loza (2009-current). Jaeger was a freshman when the Mocs advanced to the championship in 2009 tying for team-low honors in 13th with Ben Rickett (2006-09) .
• Jaeger made the watch list for the 2012 Ben Hogan Award. First Mocs student-athlete to be so named.
• Chattanooga student-athletes have won five of the last six Southern Conference Golfer of the Year honors. Jaeger won an unprecedented three in a row. Jonathan Hodge (2006-09) won in 2007 and 2008.
• In addition to his three-peat as player of the year, Jaeger is a four-time all-conference performer and the last Mocs golfer to win Freshman of the Year (2009). He joins Rende as the only UTC student-athletes to make the all-league team all four years. He is also in line to become the first four-time PING All-Region selection and could be just the second All-American (Hodge, 2008 2nd team) as well.
• Fox was named SoCon Golfer of the Week following his performance at the LSU National Invitational. It was his second such honor in his career.
• Jaeger was named league Golfer of the Month for March. His best finish was tied for third against a strong field at the Linger Longer Invite. He added the April award too following his dominating SoCon win.
• Jaeger earned his first SoCon Golfer of the Week mention of 2012 and fourth overall for his play at the Linger Longer Invite. That's the most won by a UTC men's golfer.
• All seven Mocs have qualified for at least two events this season. Only Jaeger and Fox have played in all 11 events. There have been seven different lineups used.
• Jaeger posted his second career collegiate win at the Golfweek Conference Challenge. His seven-under par total of 209 is an exact match to his winning total at the 2011 LSU National Invite. That was his third win which tied for the school record with Hodge and Bryce Ledford (2004-07).
• The first two events this season were a handful for the Mocs. The fields for the Carpet Capital Collegiate (12 teams) and Golfweek Conference Challenge (15) included 20 2011 NCAA Regional participants, 10 of which advanced to the NCAA Championship with three (Oklahoma State, Georgia, Georgia Tech) that advanced to match play. UTC went 19-6 finishing sixth at the Farm and second at the conference challenge with wins over Oklahoma State, Georgia Tech, Cal, Georgia, LSU and Wake Forest.
• Weilguni carded a career-best finish of second at the Carpet Capital Collegiate where he tied his career highs for 54-hole total (210) and single round (67) at the Carpet Capital. His five-under 67 in the second round included an eagle, four birdies and 12 pars with a single blemish (bogey).
• Liam Johnston (Dumfries, Scotland) is one of the more heralded newcomers in UTC history. He finished as runner-up at the 2011 Scottish Boys Match Play Championship, 2011 Scottish Boys Stroke Play Championship and was No. 2 on the 2010 Scottish Boys Order of Merit.
• The Mocs are an interesting mix of regional and international talent. There are three Tennesseans in Bunn (Knoxville), Fox, (Hendersonville) and Ratliff (Kingsport). There are two Scots (Robb & Johnston), an Austrian (Weilguni) and a German (Jaeger). Jaeger covers both sides of the pond prepping in Chattanooga at the Baylor School.
