The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga had 139 student-athletes named to the Southern Conference Honor Roll, the league office announced today.  The SoCon Honor Roll recognizes student-athletes who participated in varsity sports at member institutions and posted a 3.0 grade point average or higher during the 2012-13 academic year.

A record 2,018 student-athletes earned spots on the Southern Conference Academic Honor Roll for the 2012-13 academic year.  The honor roll topped 2,000 student-athletes for the first time in conference history, surpassing the record 1,985 that were honored in 2010-11. The 25-year-old award originated in 1988-89, when SoCon athletic directors established the honor roll prior as a way to recognize the league's outstanding student-athletes.

Of those more than 2,000 student-athletes on the list, 894 earned the Commissioner's Medal, awarded annually to student-athletes who attain a GPA of 3.5 or higher throughout the year. Of those, 85 had perfect 4.0 GPAs, with Georgia Southern boasting a SoCon-high 19 with perfect marks for the year.  Chattanooga had 75 student-athletes earned the SoCon Commissioner's Medal and the Mocs were second in the league with 13 4.0's.
