ROCKY FACE, Ga.--- The Chattanooga Mocs improved 10 shots from its first round performance with an eight-over par 296 today at the Carpet Capital Collegiate. That keeps UTC tied for 13th with Tennessee, six strokes behind Wake Forest and Kennesaw State.

Freshman Stuart Thomas (Knoxville, Tenn.) led the way with an even-par 72. Davis Bunn (Knoxville) carded a 74 (+2), while Brooks Thomas (Chattanooga) and Ewan Scott (St. Andrew, Scotland) rounded out the counting scores with three-over par 75s. Wes Gosselin (Knoxville) had the drop score with a 76.

“A much better round today,” Head Coach Mark Guhne said. “We came out firing early and then kind of lost steam there at the end. I'm proud of the fight. Hopefully tomorrow we are able to get that complete round, but I'll tell you, this is a course that can trip you up quickly.”

Bunn is the top Moc overall at one-over par 145. He is tied for 14th. Georgia Tech's Ollie Schniederjans extended his individual lead with a second straight 67 for a total of 10 under (134). He is three shots clear of North Carolina's Bailey Patrick at 137.

Georgia Tech saw its 10-shot leaded dwindle to four. The Yellow Jackets are at seven under (569) with Georgia closing in fast. The Bulldogs shot 282 (-6) to stand at minus three (573) with 18 to go.

Chattanooga opens play on No. 10 at 8:20 a.m., for Sunday's final round. Brooks Thomas leads off followed by Gosselin (8:31), Scott (8:42), Stuart Thomas (8:53) and Bunn (9:04). The Mocs are paired with Tennessee and the five individuals entered separate of the team competition.
