MOBILE, Ala. --- The Chattanooga Mocs men's golf team got off to a slow start in the morning, but ended the day strong and is tied for fifth after 36 holes at the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate. The Mocs shot rounds of 294 and level-par 288 for its total of 582.

“We started awfully slow,” Head Coach Mark Guhne stated. “We turned it around and everybody played solid in the afternoon. You have to have that low round and we didn't get it today. There needs to be two or three low ones if you want to win a tournament.

“”We just need to get our all at once tomorrow.”

The afternoon 288 is the fourth-best round of the season. It moved the squad from seventh-place to a tie with Memphis in fifth.

Senior Davis Bunn (Knoxville, Tenn.) led Chattanooga with even-par rounds of 72 for a total of 144. He is tied for 10th, one stroke clear of Ewan Scott (St. Andrews, Scotland) ties for 14th at plus one. Wes Gosselin (Knoxville) is another shot back at 146, tied for 16th.

Chris Robb (Aberdeenshire, Scotland) and Liam Johnston (Dumfries, Scotland) shook off opening 18 troubles to shoot 73 and 72, respectively in the afternoon. Robb stands at 149, while Johnston checks in at 151.

Auburn is the team leader at four-under par 572. Kentucky and Georgia State are tied for second with 577, while Middle Tennessee is fourth at 580.

Niclas Carlson (Auburn) and Payne Denman (MT) share the lead at four-under 140. There is a quartet of golfers tied for third at 142.

The final round tomorrow starts at 8:45 a.m., Central time. Johnston leads off for Chattanooga on No. 1 followed by Robb (8:54), Gosselin (9:03), Scott (9:12) and Bunn (9:21). Click the link above to access live scoring and follow @GoMocsMGLF on Twitter for updates.
