Chattanooga Posts Sweep Over The Citadel

UTC improves to 16-3 and 5-1 in Southern Conference play.

The Chattanooga Mocs volleyball team clinched a 3-0 win over The Citadel in Charleston, S.C. UTC improves to 16-3 and 5-1 in Southern Conference play, marking its 10th sweep.

"We have great leadership and grit within our team," head coach Travis Filar stated. "We showed one of our biggest strengths is our depth, as we made some changes in our lineup and still competed at a high level."

Chattanooga played different starters and substitutes in the matchup, including senior Julimar Alvarado (San Juan, Puerto Rico) playing in two sets. Freshman Emily Plumlee (Chesapeake, Va.) started for the Mocs and featured her best stats, with seven kills and a .417 attack percentage. She even hit the match-winning kill.

After winning the first two sets (25-19, 26-24), UTC came out firing to clinch the final frame 25-12.

"I continue to be so proud of our team's toughness and how we are growing throughout the season," Filar said. "Friday's loss to Furman was physically and emotionally draining so to have a quick turnaround and win in three speaks volumes."

Chattanooga outplayed the Bulldogs offensively. UTC racked up 50 kills paired with a strong .424 attack percentage, compared to the Citadel's 35 kills and .208 clip.

Junior Allie Davenport (Tyrone, Ga.) paced the squad with 14 kills and a .636 hitting percentage, while sophomore Lauren Greenspoon (Houston, Texas) set the team for 42 assists.

Freshman Miranda Elpers (Louisville, Ky.) has been strong from the service line, recording three aces for the second match in a row.
