NOTESRALEIGH---The Chattanooga Mocs men's golf team finished tied for seventh at the Wolfpack Fall Open on Lonnie Poole Golf Course. The Mocs shot 294 over the final 18 to end up knotted with Loyola (Md.) at 586.
Wes Gosselin posted his first top 5 of the season, second top 10 carding level-par 142. His back-to-back 71s marked a new 36-hole career low total. He tied for fifth, six strokes behind medalist Robin Petersson (136) of Augusta.
Chattanooga was even par on its round today through nine holes. The 10th-12th were treacherous with the squad shooting +7 over the stretch ending up at +10 for the day.
"We were in position,"
Mark Guhne said. "It's another learning experience for us. It's frustrating because we battled so well yesterday in tougher condition. There were birdies to be had today and we didn't have enough of them.
"We'll build on this and work to get over the hump."
Brooks Thomas bounced back with the Mocs' low round of the tournament turning in a 1-under 70 today. That tied him for 46th with
Stuart Thomas at 150.
Andrew Weathers and
Lake Johnson were another shot back at 151.
Kory Webb had a strong effort as an individual. His career-best 36-hole total of 146 (+5) tied for 23rd overall with the junior shooting 1-over 72 in today's final 18.
Augusta came back from an eight-stroke deficit to capture the team title with a 5-over 573. UNCG and host N.C. State tied for second at 575.
The Mocs return to the tee next week at the AutoTrader.com Collegiate. The event is played at Berkeley Hills Country Club outside Atlanta. Follow @GoMocsMGLF on Twitter for updates.
