CHATTANOOGA, Tenn.---The Chattanooga Mocs men's golf team opens the 2015-16 season in a familiar location. It hopes to end in one as well.

"We are working hard to get back to regionals with a chance at the NCAA Championships," head coach Mark Guhne stated. "That was a tough pill to swallow last season. There's not a man on this team that was satisfied with our performance.

"We're working hard to get back to expectations."

The Mocs begin the campaign at the Carpet Capital Collegiate September 11-13. The "Masters of College Golf" affords fans their first look at the team with the tourney played at the Farm in nearby Rocky Face (Dalton), Ga.

"It's one of the best tournaments period," Guhne added. "The course is fantastic, the people are even better and the field is top notch. Our guys love playing there, and we always get good support from home.

"Could not have a better starting point."

The Carpet Capital is one of five fall events. The squad travels to Virginia for the VCU September 21-22 before opening October in North Carolina at the Wolfpack Fall Open. They close it returning to the AutoTrader.com (Oct. 12-13 – Atlanta) and Bridgestone Golf Collegiate (Oct. 25-26 – Greensboro, N.C.).

The spring features six tournaments before the postseason. There are four new stops – Mobile Sports Authority Intercollegiate (Feb. 22-23 – Mobile, Ala.), Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate (Mar. 7-8 – Aiken, S.C.), General Hackler Championship (Mar. 12-13 – Myrtle Beach, S.C.) and Wolfpack Spring Open (Apr. 18-19) – while returning to two – Furman Intercollegiate (Mar. 25-27 – Greenville, S.C.) and Old Waverly Collegiate (Apr. 4-5 – West Point, Miss.).

Those 11 tourneys lead to the postseason. According to Guhne, they are vital in setting up postseason possibilities.

"No question," said the Chattanooga area native leading his alma mater into his 11th season. "We were in good position after a solid fall, but really struggled in the spring. That made winning the league tournament a must to go to regionals. That was the first time since our first year in 2005-06 being in that position.

"We have the ability to put those questions away before conference."

The Southern Conference Championships are April 24-26 at Pinehurst No. 9. The Mocs have won five of the last nine league titles.

NCAA Regionals are May 18-20 with six different possibilities awaiting 75 teams and 45 individuals. Those locations are Ol' Colony Golf Complex (Tuscaloosa, Ala.), Gallery Golf Club (Tucson, Ariz.), Blackwolf Run Meadow Valley Course (Kohler, Wisc.), Championship Course at UNM (Albuquerque, N.M.), Karsten Creek Golf Club (Stillwater, Okla.) and Vanderbilt Legends Club (Nashville, Tenn.). Thirty teams and six individuals advance to the NCAA Championships are May 27-June 1 at Eugene Country Club in Eugene, Ore. The squad qualified for regionals 2007-2014 and made the NCAA Championships three times - 2009, 2012 & 2014.

It all starts September 11-13 at the prestigious Carpet Capital. Admission is free.
