The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga wrestling team is back in action this weekend, traveling to Davidson for a Southern Conference matchup.  The match takes place on Sunday, Jan. 31, at 1:00 p.m. in Davidson, N.C.
 
The Mocs are 9-3 overall and lead the SoCon race with a 4-0 mark in league duals.  Davidson is 4-9 on the year and 0-1 in SoCon competition.  A link for live video is available for the match on the wrestling schedule page on GoMocs.com.

Junior Jared Johnson still leads the team with his 18-3 overall record and No. 11 national ranking at heavyweight.  Freshman Kamaal Shakur has the most wins with his 19-5 mark at 157, while junior Michael Pongracz continues his outstanding season with a 16-2 tally at 141.
 
Freshman Cody Minnick is pushing for time on the mat and is in the probable lineup at 133.  Senior John Lampe is also back in the lineup at 184. 
 
Head Coach Heath Eslinger is in his seventh season at UTC.  A two-time Southern Conference Coach of the Year, he owns a 88-44 (.654) career dual record.
 
SOCON RACE UPDATE
The Mocs have dominated the SoCon, winning the league 30 times since joining in 1978.  UTC was picked to win again this year, but it is a tight race.  UTC is out in front with a 4-0 mark, followed by Appalachian State at 4-1.  The 25th-ranked Mountaineers looked to be strong contenders to take over the top spot, but lost to Gardner-Webb last weekend.
 
GWU is 3-1 with its lone loss coming to UTC.  Campbell is next at 2-2, followed by The Citadel (1-3) and Southern Illinois-Edwardsville (1-3).  Davidson (0-1) and VMI (0-4) are still looking for their first win in league action. 
 
Chattanooga has won 25 consecutive SoCon matches.  The last loss was a 21-17 home defeat against Appalachian State on Feb. 5, 2012.

MOCS SET RECORDS IN THE CLASSROOM
The wrestling team had an outstanding semester in the classroom for the Fall 2015 term.  UTC topped the 3.0 mark (3.04) for the first time as a team.  The Mocs also set program records with 22 on the A.D. Honor Roll, 16 on the Dean's List and five 4.0s.
