CHATTANOOGA---The Chattanooga Mocs men's basketball team is headed north to West Point, N.Y., for the mainland regional bracket of the Maui Jim Maui Invitational. The 2-1 Mocs take on Central Arkansas Saturday night at 8:30 p.m., following Arkansas State and Army West Point at 6 p.m.
Â
UTC is fresh off a 102-54 win over Hiwassee Wednesday night.
Justin Tuoyo's 15.0 points and eight rebounds per game paces the squad, followed by
Greg Pryor at 13.3 points per contest. Joining them in the probable starting lineup are
Johnathan Burroughs-Cook (6.5 ppg, 1.5 rpg),
Tre' McLean (9.3, 6.3) and
Makinde London (6.3, 3.7).
Casey Jones is day-to-day with a lower leg injury.
Â
Central Arkansas enters the weekend 0-2 with losses at Wisconsin (79-47) and Oklahoma State (102-90). Dynamic guard Jordan Howard leads the Bears averaging nearly 20 points per game followed closely by Mathieu Kamba (13.0, 7.5) and Derreck Brooks (14.5, 5.0).
Â
"Central Arkansas played Oklahoma State close," Coach
Matt McCall said. "I've known [OSU Head Coach] Brad Underwood since he was an assistant at South Carolina, before he was at Stephen F. Austin & in their league. He told me [UCA] is one of the more improved teams in the country. Watching on film, they have one of the better guards around in Jordan Howard. He's averaging 20 per game against high-major programs. It'll be a great challenge for us.
Â
"The overall experience will be good for our players. Playing at West Point, which I've heard is a spectacular campus, will be a fun event and good weekend for us."
Â
Army and Arkansas State are in the other half of the bracket. The Black Knights are 1-1 with a 14-point loss at No. 5 Oregon (91-77) and blowout of Mount Saint Mary College (91-53). The Red Wolves are 2-1 after last night's impressive 78-72 victory at Georgetown.
