The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga men's and women's tennis teams have a busy week of action ahead. The men travel to Tennessee Tech on Thursday and both teams host three double headers on Saturday and Sunday at the Champions Club.
The men are off to a 3-3 start as they take on the Golden Eagles in Cookeville, Tenn. Match time is set for Noon (E.S.T.) on Thursday, Feb. 18. This is Tech's first home match of the season and the Golden Eagles are 1-2 on the year.
The Mocs own a 33-21 lead in the all-time series, but dropped a 4-2 match at home to Tennessee Tech last season.
"We have a lot on our plates this week, facing four quality teams in four days," stated head coach Carlos Garcia. "It starts on Thursday with a tough Tennessee Tech team. It has been awhile since the Mocs have played in Cookeville, so it should be an exciting match."
Both teams are in action on Saturday, Feb. 20, at the Champions Club. The women put their 2-4 record up against Jacksonville State at 1:00 p.m. The men host North Alabama at the same time.
"We are looking forward to a busy weekend on the courts and hopefully continuing our winning streak," stated women's head coach Jeff Clark. "We have to keep improving as a team in order to reach the goals we have set."
JSU is 2-6 overall and has a trip to Mercer before taking on the Mocs. UTC is 14-4 in the all-time series with the Gamecocks, including last year's 7-0 win on the road.
On the men's side, North Alabama is 1-2 overall. This is the sixth year in a row the Mocs host the Lions, and UTC holds an 8-0 mark in the series. Chattanooga won last year's match 5-2.
There are four matches on Sunday, beginning with both teams hosting Alabama State at 11:00 a.m. That is followed by another double header against Dalton State at 2:30 p.m.
The Alabama State men are 1-3, while the women are 3-4 overall. The women play Troy on Wednesday and both teams take on Alabama A&M on Saturday before visiting the Mocs. This is the third year in a row the men have played the Hornets, winning each of the two previous meetings, and the first meeting on record between the women's teams.
It is also the first time either team hosts Dalton State. The Roadrunners men's team is 3-3 on the year and currently ranked No. 2 in the nation in the NAIA. The women are 1-2 overall and both teams have three matches in Mobile, Ala., on Friday and Saturday before visiting the Mocs.
"It should be an exciting weekend of tennis, and we are looking forward to an exciting atmosphere at the Champions Club," added Garcia. "I encourage all tennis fans to come out and support the Mocs."
