The Chattanooga Mocs softball team split games on the first day of the Frost Classic presented by Ruby Falls. UTC moves to 9-4.
"We need to score more runs," head coach
Frank Reed stated. "We have to be more focused."
Chattanooga began the day with a 3-0 win over Eastern Illinois.
Senior
Sam Taylor scored three times for the Mocs to give her a team-best 12 runs on the season. The first two were off doubles from senior
Anyssa Robles and freshman
Jordan Fortel. Fortel batted Taylor in again in the fifth inning for her ninth RBI, which leads the team.
Sophomore
Cori Jennings improved to 5-1 from the mound.
In their second matchup of the day, Chattanooga dropped an 11-1 contest to Evansville.Â
The Purple Aces got off to a fast start after they scored one run in the first and five in the second. Evansville scored twice more before UTC got on the board with a run by Fortel.
The Purple Aces then scored three more runs to finish the game.
Sophomore
Kailey Palazzolo started the game at pitcher, and Fortel stepped in during the second inning.
No. 18 Kentucky went undefeated on the day defeating Evansville 4-0 and Miami (Ohio) 8-0. The Redhawks beat Evansville 2-1. Eastern Illinois
posted a 9-1 win over Northern Kentucky, while Lipscomb defeated the Norse 10-1.
The Mocs face Miami (Ohio) Saturday at 1:30 p.m. (E.S.T.) and Kentucky at 4:00 p.m.

Tickets for the Frost Classic are $10 a day for adults and $5 a day for youth. UTC students are admitted free with a valid Mocs Card.
