Sophomore Cori Jennings was named the Southern Conference Pitcher of the Month for February, the league announced Thursday. It is the first time she has earned a monthly honor.

As a 2016 Preseason Second-Team All-SoCon selection, Jennings was named SoCon Pitcher of the Week on Feb. 15 for her performance in Chattanooga's first tournament of the season.

She is 5-2 from the circle, fanning a team-high 45 strikeouts, including a season-best 13 against Wright State Feb. 19. Jennings pitched a complete-game shutout helping the Mocs beat Eastern Illinois 3-0 Feb. 26.

"Obviously we have some tough games coming up, but we have to learn that if we stay up and put the ball in play, play some good defense, have some decent pitching and hang in the game, then we have a shot to win on the road," head coach Frank Reed stated.

The Mocs start the weekend against Michigan State Friday at 1:00 p.m. (E.S.T.). The two programs haven't played since 2000 when they faced each other at two tournaments that season. The Spartans won 4-1 and 1-0.

Chattanooga plays Columbia Saturday at 10:00 a.m. in the first meeting between the two programs.

To start the season, the Lions are 3-6. Columbia went 1-3 at the District Invite in Washington, D.C., last weekend. The team beat Robert Morris and fell to George Washington, Maryland and Georgetown.
