GREENVILLE, S.C.---Wes Gosselin and Lake Johnson led the Chattanooga Mocs men's golf team with opening round 70s Friday at the Furman Intercollegiate. The Mocs turned in a 2-over 290 to tie for sixth with USC-Aiken, Dartmouth and Akron.
 
Johnson's seven birdies tied Gosselin's team season-high from the final round of the AutoTrader.com Collegiate in the fall. The duo is tied for eighth at -2.
 
The squad tallied two eagles and 18 birdies for the round. The birdie total also matched the team's best from the opening 18 at September's VCU Shootout. Andrew Weathers turned in a 74, while Brooks Thomas and Kory Webb each shot 76 to make up the 290.
 
Harvard is the first round leader at -4 (284). That's one better than Georgia State, while host Furman checks in third at E. Andrew Novak (Wofford) and Logan Lagodich (Marshall) led individually at -5.
 
Saturday's second round begins at noon on hole No. 1. The Mocs are paired again with the Paladins and Jacksonville. Webb leads off trailed by Thomas (12:10), Weathers (12:20), Johnson (12:30) and Gosselin (12:40). Live scoring and paring links are above, and fans can follow @GoMocsMGLF on Twitter.
