Kory Webb set several new career bests in leading the Chattanooga Mocs to a fourth-place finish at the SoCon Championships.

RESULTS | NOTES

PINEHURST, N.C.---Chattanooga Mocs junior Kory Webb finished a career-best fourth at the Southern Conference Championships. UTC also finished fourth as a team with a final round 296 providing the 18-over total of 882.

Webb's 2-under 214 is a career low. He carded 71 in the final round to shoot par or better all three days.

"It's been a long year with a lot of ups and downs," Webb noted. "I've worked really hard and just felt this was a long time coming. I hit it really well this week...by far the best ball-striking tournament I've ever had. It was just a few putts from being a very special week.

"My teammates push me every day to get better, so I thank them for it."

Coach Mark Guhne, while disappointed in the team finish, was quick in his praise of Webb's play.

"Very proud of Kory," he shared. "Things haven't always gone his way, but man, what a time to put together the best tournament of your career! We had a shot because he played 54 holes providing a great lesson for our whole team."

The Mocs opened the day at 3-under with three birdies on the par 5 10th hole, their first of the day. They made the turn at +3 and were within two shots of the lead through 12 holes, but could not finish the charge after starting the final 18 down 10.

"We just dug too big of a hole," Guhne added. "I'm really proud of the way the guys battled today and got back within a couple of shots, but it was just too much. This is a young team, it's learned a lot this season and adding in our signees, the future is very bright."

Webb's fourth-place finish was one of two top 10s. Wes Gosselin tied for 10th at 220, while Lake Johnson was one shot behind him tying for 12th. Andrew Weathers (229) and Brooks Thomas (234) rounded out the squad.

Webb shot 1-under 71 to lead the team in the final round. The 296 total included Weathers (73), Gosselin (74) and Thomas (78).

ETSU pulled out a one-shot win over UNCG. The Bucs shot 876 for the three days. Furman was third at 879 followed by Chattanooga (882) and Wofford (884). Medalist was also a one-stroke win with ETSU's Adrian Meronk (-6) edging Bryce Howell (Furman) and Jeremy Grab (Wofford).

Gosselin earned his first All-Southern Conference honor, while Johnson netted All-Freshman team. Meronk is the SoCon Player of the Year with Bryce Hendrix (UNCG) Freshman of the Year. Vic Lipscomb (Wofford) and Fred Warren (ETSU) shared Coach of the Year.
