The Chattanooga Mocs softball team resumes Southern Conference play this weekend in Cullowhee, N.C., to face Western Carolina. The two squads square off in a doubleheader Saturday at 1:00 p.m. (E.D.T.) and a lone game Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
UTC is 20-19 and 2-4 in SoCon action, coming off an 8-5 win against Middle Tennessee on Wednesday.
"We needed some momentum after last weekend," head coach
Frank Reed stated. "Hopefully we will be able to be a little more consistent. But we're looking forward to this weekend."
Leading the Mocs' batting, senior
Criket Blanco boasted three hits and three RBI, while senior
Sam Taylor tallied a team-best three runs. Senior
Alyssa Taylor added three RBI and two runs.
Freshman
Katie Corum had a career-best 15 putouts. From the circle, sophomore
Cori Jennings earned her ninth win.
"I thought Cori did a nice job as the innings progressed," commented Reed. "We also made some adjustments with our hitting, and we got some nice hits and drove some runs in."
Chattanooga leads the Catamounts 26-3 in the all-time series.
The two teams played in the SoCon Tournament on May 7, 2015. UTC won 5-4 after beating Western Carolina 7-1 and 8-3 earlier in the season, with the third matchup being canceled.
The Catamounts are 26-13 and 4-2 in conference play. They were also in action on Wednesday, splitting games with USC Upstate. Western Carolina won the first game 12-11 in the ninth inning and lost 3-0 in the second.
Last weekend the Catamounts won their series with UNCG 2-1, with a 13-5 and 7-6 win and a 5-1 loss.
