BIRMINGHAM---The Chattanooga Mocs suffered an 89-47 loss at UAB Monday night in Bartow Arena. It was the second of back-to-back games on the road to open the year against seasoned squads.

A cold start doomed the Mocs. They missed their first nine shots falling behind 13-0 over the opening seven-plus minutes. James Lewis, Jr.'s nice move in the paint got the good guys on the board at 12:54.

Back-to-back triples from Makale Foreman cut the lead to seven, 15-8, with 9:47 left until intermission. The Blazers took control from there.

A 20-4 outburst over the next six minutes made a seven-point game, a 23-point advantage, 35-12. Nate Darling keyed the run with seven points including a three and conventional deuce on back-to-back possessions at the eight-minute mark with the game still in the balance.

"We didn't have a great start," Foreman shared. "The first play…we talked about not letting them duck in and we let them duck in. We just have to get off to a better start and play our rules.

"Can't let them duck in on us….can't let them go baseline. I probably let them go baseline a few times. We just have to stick to the rules that coach gave us and stay true to them."

David Jean-Baptiste led the Mocs with 12 points off the bench. Foreman added 11 on 4-8 shooting including 3-4 from beyond the arc.

Darling's 19 points served as game high for the evening. Chris Cokley chipped in 12 points and 10 rebounds as the Blazers grabbed 51 for the game led by Lewis Sullivan's 11.

QUOTABLE

"You can't do that against anyone (on amount of mistakes in tonight's loss). There were plenty of them. We got off to a rough start and that ended up continuing the entire game. Sometimes you get the bull and sometimes the bull gets you. We didn't compete the way we can and are capable of; that's the bottom of line with me. I don't even need to look at the stat sheet. We didn't compete how we're capable of." – Coach Lamont Paris.
