Postgame Quotes

Lamont Paris, Head Coach

Opening statement after loss to Georgia State.
"I thought we didn't play that well. There was a lot of different aspects that went into it. There is the basketball side and I tried to break it down to the guys which is making and missing shots, finishing around the basket, things that are all basketball related. There are some other things that we have control over, blocking out, playing by our rules, paying attention to detail. I didn't think we did very well in that regard. I thought one or two plays could have made it a lot more manageable in our heads. We didn't handle a lot of different situations well today."

On mentality of team.
"Our mentality was not in a state for us to make a come back. I think for the first time, in a long time, they felt and appeared defeated. We moved in a way that it indicated that. Our spirit was that way and I don't know why. Georgia State is a good team that's coached well. They play well defensively and make teams struggle. Our quality of shot wasn't great, but even when we had a quality look they still didn't fall. It was a combination of a lot of things."

On playing on limited rest and tired legs.
"I'm sure that was some factor. That's more of a factor later in the game. I saw things in the first six or seven minutes that I didn't like. We don't have the deepest bench in the country. Guys have to play a lot of minutes and out of position. It was some level of factor, but it wasn't a main factor."

On growth through non-conference schedule.
"There's a lot of room for growth and you could see that today. I'm happy with what we've done and how we've played overall. More proud of how we've grown more than anything. I'm happy in the direction where we're headed. It'll be a battle every day in the direction we're going. We have to be real basic at practice, paying attention to detail and fundamentals. Our guys always respond."

Nat Dixon, So.-G/F
On Georgia State's play.
"They're a really good team and really well coached. They have some great guards that can play off the bounce. They also hit a lot of shots and can play defense in your face really well."

On what didn't work today.
"I feel like we have to learn to put two games together. We came out sluggish and didn't stick to our assignments. We have to learn and grow as a team. That'll come. We're a young team, and that's not an excuse. A lot of these guys are playing important minutes for the first time in their careers. Our effort definitely could have been at a higher level today."

On Georgia State's defense.
"They play great defense. A lot of shots we usually make, we didn't knock any shots down tonight. That'll happen from time to time. We need to learn to fall back on our defense for effort when the ball isn't going in."

Makinde London, Jr.-F
On what went wrong in loss to Georgia State.
"We just didn't bring it. That's what it boils down to. When we compete and play hard, we can play with anybody. We have to regroup and come back ready to go to work. No casualness or relaxation, we really have to go after this. We're a young team, there's nothing to get too high or too low over. It's a whole process and trying not to get caught up in one stage of it."

On growing from day one.
"Stepping into Wyoming we had a lot of growth. It's been continuous. With our group of guys, we don't always show the consistency that everyone wants to see and we're not there yet. That's OK. We have definitely grown in physicality and paying attention to detail. It's just a matter of putting it all together and seeing where we can go as a program, piece-by-piece."

On finishing non-conference 6-7.
"We don't expect to lose. It hurts. I believe that we could have won a lot more games. That's the past and you can't get caught up in it. I'm proud of this team and our guys. As long as we stay together and keep plugging away, that's what matters most. It's about how we handle ourselves and grow as a team."
